Local SIM Card
Once you arrive you will need to buy an American SIM card so that you can be called by various government services.
Form I-94
This is a document that shows when you entered the United States, the status in which you were admitted to the country, and the date until which you can legally stay in the country.
Work Permit
Work Permit/Employment Authorization Document (EAD) is an official document that allows you to work legally.
SNAP/WIC
SNAP food benefits are put on a Lone Star Card and can be used just like a credit card at any store that accepts SNAP.
Matching Grant
Provides cash assistance, case management, and employment services for at most eight months.Cash assistance covers rent, a utility and phone stipend, and pocket money. You must enroll within 31 days after your date of arrival or eligibility.
Medicaid
Medicaid and the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP) provides medical, dental and vision coverage for families.
Bank Account
It could be easier to set up an account at a bank branch. Most banks require a proof of ID, proof of address, and a social security card.
School Enrollment
Every child in Texas has the right to a free public education. A child may attend school in the school district in which they live. You need to provide proof of residence and proof of all state required immunizations. Ukrainian refugees do not need to provide prior school transcripts.
FOOD BANKS IN AUSTIN AREA
Local food banks help families and indivivuals in need until they can recieve their SNAP food benefits card. View the food bank location map to find a food pantry in your area. Locations will list the days and times of distribution. When visiting the food bank/pantry for the first time you should bring proof of your nationality and your humanitarian parole (I-94 form).
